Alya – tour guide of ReSky Edutravel in Indonesia.
My name is Alya, and I am the tour guide of ReSky Edutravel during their visit in Batam City, Riau Islands.
In three days of their visit in Batam City, I accompanied them to visit “Vietnamese Village” that located in Galang Islands and it was a long trip because we had to cross five bridges of Barelang Bridge to arrive at “Vietnamese village”.
The students learned so many things during this trip including the history of the village itself and the background story of the arrival of Vietnamese people in Batam City, especially about assistance from Indonesian government to Vietnamese refugees during the war. End of the trip, some older students said “thanks Indonesian”, I felt so touched since I understood they could learn something from this real experience.
We finished that day by shopping at Grand Batam Mall that located on Nagoya, The Biggest Shopping Mall in Batam City and had dinner there.
On the next day, the students had another special experience with Moslim religion through their visit at Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque on Tanjung Uncang which is the biggest and holliest one in Batam; therefore, the climate inside was amazing, it was cool even very hot outside, all students loved that moment. Additionally, they had chance to reach the peak of Mosque experiencing the scenery of Batam from its tower.
After leaving the religious place, we spent all evening together at LemonGrass Cafè & Pools on Batu Aji, Batam City with full of fun. Some of students were showing their talents by singing on the floating stage and they also sang Vietnamese song with the teachers. Others students played cards, took funny memorial pictures or rolled down on the net. All of them created very lovely and warmly moment for that space. When I saw them, I just thought how they could say goodbye.
This was really brilliant and lucky for me to meet them. All students were friendly and helpful. The teachers are so caring to the students and they seemed really close to each other. Thanks to their love, I didn’t have any feeling that I just knew them for two days.
I believe those students learnt a lot from this trip, it was not only English but also their learning ability from real and their friendship, just like how Dr. Maria Montessori said, “Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”

So proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished alya. Keep shining brightly, and never stop believing in yourself
